Bloomington Chamber Opera is a nonprofit arts organization in Bloomington, Indiana, founded in 2019. Our goal is to bring fresh perspective to opera through innovative and approachable productions.
Every year, we create an original production of a masterpiece from the operatic repertoire with a chamber orchestra and a full cast of vocalists. We are guided by the spirit of collaboration: "Yes and..."
We want to create opera that's fun, interesting, and approachable to our local community, while providing valuable performance opportunities to young artists. We also partner with other nonprofits and community groups for educational outreach projects.
We stand with people all over the world who are speaking out against racism and police brutality, and most importantly, we stand with the Black community at IU, in Bloomington, and all over the US. We affirm that Black Lives Matter. As we carry this art form forward, we are committed to eliminating racism within the genre and implementing antiracist practices within our own organization.
